Making a simple cup of coffee throughout the nineteenth century proved to be a rather hectic process, you first had to place ground or roasted coffee onto a pan and then add hot water. For faster brewing of the coffee, a lid would be placed on top of the pan. This took place all through the nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. Then came the vacuum brewers which cost a fortune, but millions of people still preferred them anyway despite, the fact that using them was rocket science. The vacuum brewer consisted of two vessels one on the upper and the other on the lower. They were both connected to each other by a narrow tube. Water had to be heated on the lower vessel; once expansion had taken place it would then force all the contents up the upper vessel which had the ground coffee.
